Good morning friends and members of Emmanuel Church,
It is a wet morning up on God’s hill!
We are in preparation for this week’s worship and getting ready to bounce into August.
This Sunday, August 5th, is Holy Communion and the second Sunday in our series, The Modern Psalm. We will hear from a congregation member who wil
l share her understanding of God and the Psalms and will hear a sermon from Pastor Joseph based on Psalm 113. On this Sunday, we will share in the Lord’s Supper with one another, as well. Afterwards, as is our custom, bring a covered dish for the fellowship time.
This Week:
Consistory is Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Thursday is Steeple Support Team at 5:30 p.m. At a recent meeting, the Consistory unanimously agreed to support a new outreach project to start a new church plant in Vandergrift, PA. Since the proposed church plant, called Steeple, is the dream of two of our members, Ryan and TJ Lucas, Emmanuel Church will be the sending body. We will send Ryan and TJ and their family out into the neighborhoods of Vandergrift with the mission of starting a new United Church of Christ congregation. The first step in this journey for Emmanuel Church is Thursday night.
General Announcements:
- Confirmation time is here! Children who will be age 12 (recommended) by May 2019 are invited to come to an informational meeting with their parents on August 15 at 7 p.m. to hear the plan for 2018-2019 Confirmation.
- August 18: Noon to 6 p.m. Fairview Park Picnic. Bring lawn chairs and dish to pass and your own utensils. Fairview Park has olde time games, fellowship and food vendors. You can read more about the picnic and see pictures from past years here.
- August 18: Stop on by the Emmanuel booth at the Export Ethnic Heritage Festival. We have crayons and bookmarks for the kids and a cup of cool water. Volunteers will be running the table from 11 to 6 p.m.
- Looking for a worthy project to support? Do you like music? The Music
Department at church is seeking to buy new sheet music for the choir to sing. Your donation to the Music Fund will help us have some new music to sing in the fall. We are also asking congregation members to donate a dollar for the Ice Cream served after worship, which will go towards the Music fund as well.
Grace and Peace, Pastor Joseph
