Dear Friends and Members of Emmanuel Church,
It is a beautiful January up on God’s hill! We ‘ve been blessed with warm fellowship and a warm building, even if the temperatures outside have not been so nice.
This Sunday we will welcome a new member to our fellowship and we will hear a lesson from John 9, the man born blind. The sermon title is: “Getting Our Hands Dirty.” Linda has a special anthem planned. The children will take the Noisy Collection during the Children’s Sermon Time. Children’s Lesson will follow and the nursery is always available.
Next week: No Bible Study on Tuesday, January 23.

- Prayer Blanket Ministry
We pray for members and friends of the congregation. Sometimes we have prayer blankets, other times we just experience God’s presence.

- January 25th. City and Kingdom Pittsburgh: Jesus of Nazareth reminds his disciples that we have a ministry beyond the church; we are to be “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). But how are Christians to serve and minister to the world? What practical matters must be attended to so that we can follow Jesus’ teachings?
A provocative vision for the ministry of the church in the world has been proposed by Rod Dreher in his recent book The Benedict Option. Drawing on the historical witness of Benedict of Nursia, Dreher proposes several strategies for the church to minister in the midst of the world. On Thursday, January 25th, City and Kingdom Pittsburgh will host a panel discussion on The Benedict Option with Father Thomas Hart, Order of Saint Benedict and assistant to the president for mission at Saint Vincent College; Dr. Daniel Anderson, Assistant Professor of English at Mount Aloysius College and host of the Sectarian Review Podcast; and Rev. Joseph Hedden, Pastor of Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Export, PA. An opportunity for questions and answers will follow the panel discussion. City and Kingdom Pittsburgh: The Benedict Option will be held at Bella Luna Trattoria Restaurant, 5060 William Penn Highway, Monroeville, PA 15146. The panel discussion will begin at 7:00 PM and we will eat at 8:00 PM. Questions: Contact the convener, Rev. Joseph Hedden at pastorjoseph@windstream.net or 412-956-5252.
