November 16, 2017 Weekly Update

Dear friends and members of Emmanuel Church, duet.jpg

It’s a beautiful Thursday morning on God’s hill!

Sunday morning is our Annual Thanksgiving Worship Service.  This means there will be a thanksgiving display in the sanctuary and it is the second to last Sunday that we will collect for the toys for the Salvation Army and the Food Bank Collection for the Westmoreland County Food Bank.  Deadline for both is next Sunday, November 26th.

Shawn Hanks and I will be helping to lead the music, since Linda is off.  We miss you, Linda!!

The theme for the service is Jesus: The Bread of Life.  As we prepare to tuck in for Thanksgiving Dinner, we ask ourselves, what does Jesus teach us about our true attitude toward food and drink?

Great news!  We’ve been asked to sing as a congregation at Export Light Up Night.  This is the first time we’ve been invited and Export has lots of great activities planned.  Now, here’s where you can get involved.  We want as many people as we can get to come out to Light Up Night and support Emmanuel Church.  A good turnout would be crucial to showing our neighbors who we are.  So, even if you think you can’t sing (You can really.  You’ve been singing these Christmas carols since you were 5!) , we need you!  Just come and mouth some words!  There will be enough of us to carry a tune.

Decorating the Church at 9 a.m. & Evening Advent Meditation at 5 p.m.

9 a.m. Saturday, December 2nd, we need some strong folks to help us get some items out of the attic and set up for Sunday, December 3rd’s activities.  Coffee will be on.  Carols will be playing. Doughnuts and Continental Breakfast-y things will be there.  See you then!

That evening will be the first in a December Series of Events.  Advent Evening Meditations.  Are you searching for pause, refreshment and, most of all, God, this Advent time? in the sanctuary at 5 p.m., we will enjoy holy silence, pause, light candles, hear Scripture, and sing a few carols. Afterwards, we will adjourn to the Steele Building  for hot chocolate, Christmas cookies, and coffee.

  1. I enjoyed this post. Here is an idea that I think Jesus would be behind and I am hoping you will spread the word. Thanks! Rita https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hidlnk1NC10&t=5s
