Dear Friends and Members of Emmanuel Reformed Church,
This Sunday is the Third Sunday after Epiphany and in worship we will be talking about the call to the disciples, as recorded in Mark’s Gospel Chapter 1. We will also be Affirming the Ministry of Ryan Lucas, who is a Member in Discernment and Student in the Penn West Academy for Ministry. This is the first step in any further, ongoing work and formation in the United Church of Christ. After worship, we will have a small reception for Ryan and his family in the Steele building.
On January 29th, we will celebrate the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany and after worship we will hold our Adjourned Annual Congregational Meeting. At this meeting we will receive the annual reports that were published in the latest Newsletter and vote on the 2012 budget. You are invited to come to the meeting and bring some finger foods for lunch. At 2:30 p.m. that day, I will be preaching at Redstone Highlands. At 6:30 p.m., Emmanuel’s Emergent Experience small group will meet at Logan and Heather Clarks. Contact me for directions. Everyone is invited. You don’t need to be a church member. The study is: Who is Jesus? And this theme is appropriate for anyone who wants to know more about Jesus and how he can be found in our daily routine.
Looking ahead: February 5–Boy Scout Sunday with Communion.
February 12–Sweetheart Pasta Dinner after worship. Sign up sheet is on the office door for donations.
March 4–Philippine Partnership Sunday–There will be a Philippine cook-off. You are invited to bring a Philippine recipe (copies are in the church office) and judges will ‘crown’ the best cook. This is to celebrate our partnering with the United Church of Christ in the Philippines–Solsona.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Joseph
