January 12, 2012–Weekly Update

Good morning Friends and Members of Emmanuel Reformed Church,

This Sunday is the kick off for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. We will be doing a couple of things to commemorate the week. First, several of the prayers and worship materials on Sunday come from our partner church, the United Church of Christ in the Philippines. Second, we will be
taking the Joyful Noise Collection during the Children’s Time (bring your change) to help raise money toward buying a goat (120 dollars) for Heifer Project. Heifer Project provides livestock for villages and families around the world to fight hunger and poverty. Come and be part of something really exciting on Sunday.

Last night at consistory, a procedural change regarding the Newsletter and Bulletin was approved. I have now been named the editor of the Newsletter and Bulletin. Any concerns or criticisms about Newsletter/Bulletin content should be directed to the Pastor.

Monday morning January 16 at 10 a.m., we are going to meet here at the church to go sledding in Indiana. Pray for snow! If the weather does not cooperate, we will still meet and do some planning/activities for the youth/children’s ministry of the church. If you have questions, you can talk to me or to Trista
Lucas.

A look at some upcoming events:
January 22–Commissioning of Ryan Lucas as Member in Discernment in the Licensed Ministry School.

January 29–New Membership Sunday!!!! We welcome five new members and will have the adjourned congregational meeting following worship. That evening is
Emmanuel Emergent Experience’s small group meeting at Logan and Heather Clark’s at 6:30 p.m.

February 5–Boy Scout Sunday

February 12–Valentine’s Day Pasta Dinner

March 4–Philippine partnership cook off after worship. We will have a presentation regarding our partner church in the Philippines and are encouraged to cook a Philippine recipe to try. (Ask me, I have loads of recipes that can
be made with locally available ingredients. Or Google it and be creative.) We will judge who has the best dish!

Blessings to you and your family this week!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Joseph
