Thursday Update–December 29, 2011

Dear Friends and Members of Emmanuel Church,

Good afternoon. I want to thank everyone for the wonderful worship experiences
over the Christmas Holiday. It was great to have everyone in worship and I hope
that your Christmas was full of the light of Jesus.

This Sunday is our New Year’s Day Service at 10:15 a.m. The sermon is based on
Luke Chapter 2 and is about Simeon and Anna, two lesser-known figures in the New
Testament. They both held the infant Jesus and recognized him as the Messiah.

On Tuesday, January 3rd our Bible Study in Deuteronomy will resume.

Next Sunday, January 8th will have a New Year’s Commitment Service as well as
communion.

Blessings to you:

Pastor Joseph

  1. Pastor Hedden, This particular entry has tremendously touched my heart on this day…especially the blessed one, Anna, the eighty four year old widow, one of few who knew that Jesus is the Messiah. I pray to develop my faith as Anna’s, to submit to the spirit, to step forward and be used by the Holy Spirit, though I am far away from my land of birth and childhood church of faith. I will begin studying Deuteronomy for tomorrow’s study. God bless!

    1. Hello, I, too, have been blessed by the example of Anna and Simeon. As I said in my sermon on Sunday, “God does not give us a retirement age for faith.” I like that idea–because so much of our culture is about telling us what we can’t do at this age or that age. But Anna and Simeon saw the Lord revealed to them when the rest of the world slept . . . . Blessings to you!
