Thursday Update–October 22, 2011

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful colors of the autumn season.

Saturday is the St. Vincent Gristmill/College tour. We will meet at church at 10 a.m. and car pool over to the college. Cost of the tour is a dollar per person. Lunch will be on your own at either the snack shop at St. Vincent or at one of the local places to eat. We should be done early mid-afternoon.

Sunday morning’s worship will deal with Jesus’ understanding of the most important laws (which ties in nicely with the Tuesday morning Bible Study of the Ten Commandments). The Sermon is called “Hanging Out the Wash.” We’ll also be continuing our mitten tree of donations as well as the Stump the Pastor time during the Children’s Sermon. The children and teens will have a lesson in the Steele Building following the Children’s Sermon.

Monday night is Cherub Choir at 6:45 and Chancel Choir at 7 p.m. Tuesday morning is Bible Study at 10 a.m.  Come join us, as God has blessed us with growth and enthusiasm!

Friday night is an all ages Halloween party–from 7 p.m. to 8:30. Parents are invited to go through the party with their children/grandchildren. We will begin with a short lesson in the sanctuary, and proceed to the Steele building where there will be snacks and bobbing for apples and games. All ages are invited to dress up!!!

A week from Sunday is Reformation Sunday. At the 10:15 worship, I will be explaining the Biblical Foundation for Reformed Worship. (In plain language, why we do what we do in the service. And why the order is important.)

That evening, October 30th, is a special service of rememberance at the Emmanuel Emergent Experience. We are going to be remembering the lives of those gone before–An All Saint’s Tradition. I am inviting everyone to bring a symbol of someone or something that you have lost and would like remembered. We will create in the service a “Living Icon.” We will end the service with a candlelight procession to the graveyard. You will be able to take your items back home with you after the service. Fellowship and Coffee Hour is at 5:30 p.m. Service starts at 6:30 p.m.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Joseph
